The Open Data Technology division of NIC has conducted a workshop for Chief Data Officers (CDOs) of various Ministries/Departments at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on 17th March 2023. The primary objective of the workshops was to demonstrate the value of open government data and how it can be used to create efficient government systems, use it in decision making and drive innovation.
The following topics were discussed during the workshop:

  • Overview of the OGD 2.0 developed on the microservices-based architecture and redefined Roles and Responsibilities of CDOs

  • Discussion on the framework developed to declare Star CDO of the month

  • Overview of the upcoming India Data Platform

The workshop started with an introduction presentation by Ms Alka Misra, DDG, NIC and HoG on the Open Government Data ecosystem and its capabilities. Detailed roles and responsibilities of the Chief Data Officers and Data contributors were also discussed.

Director (IT), NIC, Ms Ritu Ghai, showcased the upcoming India Data Platform concept and how that will be envisaged as a unified national data exchange for a seamless flow of data between various stakeholders.

Open Data Technology Group HoD and Senior Director (IT), NIC, Ms Usha Saxena presented the framework developed to declare Star CDO of the month. This framework calculates various parameters and ranks CDOs as per their performance. Shri Akhilesh Srivastava, Sr. Project Manager, OGD Platform also discussed the Framework.

Shri D.P. Misra, Senior Director (IT), NIC moderated a session on interaction with the CDOs, their problem areas, and other related issues.

Assistant Director (IT) Jaskaran Singh deliberated various data sanitization techniques with the participants.

After an elaborative brainstorming discussion, in the end, Ms Usha Saxena concluded the session with a vote of thanks and putting down the way forward from the workshop.
