The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in association with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), organized the workshop ‘Data for Good Governance’ on 28th March 2024 at Kamal Mahal, ITC Maurya, Sardar Patel Marg, New Delhi.
The workshop aims to serve as a crucible for dialogue and exchange, charting the course for leveraging data governance as a catalyst for transparency, efficiency, and innovation across government and society. By bringing together thought leaders, policymakers, community members, startups, and practitioners, the workshop endeavors to outline actionable strategies and insights that can drive the future of data governance toward realizing the full potential of digital transformation.
In the plenary session, Ms. Alka Misra, DDG, NIC, presented on the topic “Synthesizing Insights for a Vision on Unified Data Ecosystem.” The vision for a Unified Data Ecosystem is a strategic imperative in the evolution of digital governance, aimed at overcoming the fragmentation of data across various government sectors and facilitating a seamless, secure exchange of data.
Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY, gave the keynote address on “Empowering Decision-Making in Digital Governance: Strategies and Visions.” Shri Krishnan focused on an approach that aims to transform the way decisions are made within government entities, ensuring that they are data-driven, inclusive, and aligned with the needs and expectations of citizens.
Shri Amit Agrawal, CEO, UIDAI, and Director-General, National Informatics Centre (NIC), addressed the topic of “Evolving Legal Framework for Digital Data Protection and its Impact on Governance.” He discussed how India’s Data Protection laws are shaping a new era of governance. He also emphasized how dynamic data and consent management are key to empowering individuals.
Speakers from the community, industry, government, startups, etc., participated in the event and shared their views on various topics related to Data for Good Governance.
Shri Ashish Aggarwal, Vice President, Public Policy, NASSCOM spoke about Data Governance for Unlocking Innovation.
Shri Shireesh Joshi, Chief Business Officer & President Network Expansion, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), presented on Catalyzing Data Governance Through Open Networks.
Shri Puneet Yadav, Joint Secretary, D/o ARPG Harnessing Data for Governance Excellence presented on topic Harnessing Data for Governance Excellence.
Shri Dheeraj Rastogi, Executive Vice President, GSTN talked about Empowering Data Governance for the Digital Era: Strategies for Managing Big Data in a Connected World.
Shri Gaurav Godwani, Co-Founder and Executive Director CivicDataLab, presented Data for Development – Sector Specific Use Cases.
